Camping Hacks - Our Guide

Preventing ants.

Ants can be a real nuisance when camping. To prevent them getting onto your tables or cooking units, spray white vinegar around the base, table legs or chair legs. This will keep them at bay.

Silver emergency blanket for keeping tent cool.

Particularly for polyester tents, hot days can make it unbearably uncomfortable due to heat retention. Place a silver emergency blanket over the roof of your tent, this will deflect the heat away from your tent roof and you will be remarkably surprised how cool it is!

Make Scented candles out of fruit.

To have a nice smelly scented candle, cut an orange or lemon in half, bore a hole in the fruit centre, remove the foil casing from around a tealight candle and insert into the fruit and light for a fresh scented smell.

Use sealed bags for your toilet paper.

If anything is going to get wet it’s this!

Use baby wipes for cleaning.

Baby wipes are especially good for cleaning many items and will leave the items smelling clean and fresh. Use these to clean equipment before storing back in the car for travelling home.

Plastic water bottle light.

Use a 2 or 3 litre water container, fill with water and strap a head torch to the container and turn on. A great illumination device!

Scrambled egg and bacon mixture in a bottle.

Crack 6 eggs and shred/dice 4 rashers of bacon, beat and mix together at home in a jug, pour the mixture into plastic bottle and place in your cool box. This can then just be poured into the pan for cooking. This also prevents eggs getting broken whilst travelling and saves prepping it on the campsite.

Pancake mix and application.

If you fancy pancakes in the frying pan, then mix your batter, fill a sandwich bag and seal into a triangle shape, when you are ready to use -just snip the tip off the bag and this makes the ideal dispenser!

Kids activity bags.

Use a large clear bag (one for each child) fill with crayons, colouring sheets, snakes and ladders creative felt etc. Depending on the age of your child model kits are very good.

Sports activity holdall

Grab a small holdall. Fill with tennis rackets, balls including footballs, swing ball is a keen favourite, telescopic fishing rods and if you’re really adventurous take the Nerf guns. All this makes plenty of summer fun and memories.

Keep your carpet in place (Airbeam tents).

Use tarp clips on each corner of the carpet, attach some tension cord around the Airbeam at the bottom. This keeps the carpet fixed in place, stops creasing and prevents the carpet slipping.

Holdall divider compartments.

Organise your holdall. We use dividers to separate and organise our holdall. A section and a place for everything. Plates and cups, knives and forks, first aid, air pump, cleaning products. It’s an amazing way to keep everything organised.

Keep inflatables in storage boxes.

A good recommendation is to keep your inflatable air bed and chairs in a plastic storage box. Keep them together and this protection prevents unwanted punctures.

Extend your tent and living space.

If you are struggling for space and particularly want something to cook under then extend your tent by using an outdoor tarp. This will give you sun shade and makes an ideal place to cook and prepare food or to even dine under.

Use a leisure battery when without hook up.

We use a leisure battery when we have no hook up (EHU), this is ideal for weekend breaks. The leisure battery will provide plenty of power for your lighting, TV, phone charging, and other low wattage electrical items. We love a particular place by the riverside where there is no EHU available, by using our leisure battery we have the best of both worlds.

Baileys Marshmallows

When toasting marshmallows over your fire or camping stove dip them in Baileys Irish cream for a luxury alcoholic experience! Or try Baileys chocolate lux.

Adults only for this one.
