Camping Know How? Part 3

Q - Are we ok to leave our tents sun canopy up in the wind if we secure it well? A - We strongly recommend that you detach or roll back your sun canopy in adverse and windy weather. Sun canopies are not designed for windy weather. Leaving the canopy attached in windy weather will cause damage to it and your tent. Q - What is the best way for us to get a good TV reception signal when camping? A - Try and pitch away from dense trees or in a valley, this often reduces reception. Try wherever possible to pitch in the open and we would recommend investment in a good quality digital TV Ariel. These can be purchased online for under £30 and are a worthwhile investment. We have a small one that receives reception up to 140 miles and packs completely flat for transportation.

Q - We have a problem with our tent zip on the side door and our tent is now out of guarantee, what do we do? A - Not to worry, there’s are tent repair specialists out there who can sort this for you. However if you own a Vango tent, Vango have a dedicated team of specialists with their spares and repairs department who will resolve the issue for you at a cost. You can contact them here. https://www.campingspares.co.uk/contact-us Q - What is the best months for family camping? A - The best months for camping are between May and September, however the unofficial camping season runs from March to October. We would recommend booking main family holidays in June, July and August. Q - If I’m not a member of the camping and caravan club can I still book my stay on these sites? A - Yes you can, however you will pay the full pitch price. Pitch discounts are given to members.

Q - What is a reasonable price per night to pay for EHU (electric hook up)? A - a reasonable price for EHU ranges from around £17 to £30 per night. This all depends on the campsite and amenities on offer. Q - What are the advantages of dark/midnight bedrooms? A - Midnight bedrooms are now considered the best for the newer tent ranges. These bedroom pods are made from dark blackout materials and will enhance your sleeping experience. The key advantages are being able to go to bed earlier and stay in bed longer in a morning. Q - I’m a single parent, what is the best tent for me? A - We often get asked this question and it’s a good one. For people who go camping on their own or single parents we would recommend an Airbeam tent personally. We advise this due to the simplicity of pitching an Airbeam tent. Pole tents are great but are always better being pitched by 2 people. A large family Airbeam tent can be easily pitched by one person with ease.

Q - Where’s the best place to store my camping gear at home? A - You must always store your camping gear in a dry place. We would strongly recommend that you store your tent inside your house to prevent condensation. Unless you have a completely dry storage area free from moisture or damp. Q - What is the best camping cooker? Gas or electric? A - We believe that the best camping cooker is gas. We say this because the heat is immediate and gas cookers can be used anywhere and without EHU.

Q - Air bed, folding camp bed or Self inflating mat - which is the best. A - I will cover air beds firstly, Well we personally have always had high rise air beds and we chose this option due to the home from home feel and comfort. However there are drawbacks to air beds in terms of reliability and deflation. (Unless you opt for the Vango blissful air bed) which retains its air constantly and won’t go down in the night. Camp beds are a good option too, a folding camped is ideal as it doesn’t deflate and will last for years, some campers invest in a folding camp bed and buy a self-inflating mat (SIM) to place on top. SIM’s are more reliable than air beds but are usually more expensive.
