Our Latest trip and Campsite review

Holmevalley Camping and Caravan Park

Brockholes near Holmfirth.

Our latest trip was to one of our most favourite campsites, Holmevalley near Holmfirth. We love this site for many reasons, but one of the key attractions to this Campsite is definitely the location and setting.

Why do we do these reviews?

We conduct these reviews because we care about our 9,485 followers across our blog page and social media, we also do them because poor campsites need exposing and campers need to be made aware. But we also do them to make our followers aware of the great campsites out there. We base the scoring system on a 50 point checklist of must haves or this can be made up in other areas depending on what else the site has to offer.

We have been visiting this particular site regularly since the 1990’s and we do this because of the great camping experience we have time after time, this place never fails to deliver with us and we always leave feeling refreshed and accomplished.

So what’s it like and what’s on offer? Well here we will run you through the campsite and we will also provide our “star rating” loved by our followers based on facilities, staff and general upkeep of the site in general.

Campsite Facilities

This has to be one of the best campsites for facilities, the shower blocks are amazing and are also award winning, these shower/toilet blocks are modern, clean and warm. With an obvious strict cleaning regime in force daily. The campsite also boasts a reception area and shop, the little shop is well stocked and if I’m honest it has never failed to deliver for us in terms of stocking the essentials you need. The vehicle path down to the site is extremely smooth due to new tarmac.

Staff

This is without a doubt one of the best positives about Holmevalley – The staff. The site staff are so helpful and will go out of their way to help with whatever they can. The owners Naomi and Ben are always about and are always on hand for guests. Furthermore they take pride in ensuring all guests have a comfortable stay ensuring that minority noise makers do not spoil it for the majority.

Glamping

If you fancy a magical Glamping experience you will be in for a real treat. The top field now boasts 4 glamping cabins (and these are spacious), a newly built Gingerbread cabin (we had a sneak peak on Saturday, and its amazing) and a newly installed Geo-Dome which is yet to be completed – we cant wait for that! The final Glamping cabin (Willow) is situated on the lakeside with a wrap around deck, and we love the look and situation of this one! These Glamping facilities book up fast especially weekends throughout the year so if you fancy treating yourself to a luxury break get browsing for dates.

The river

A river runs throughout the outskirts of the campsite and is popular with dog walkers throughout the warmer months. You will often see young children paddling in the shallow parts of the river on a summers day too, the river is a worthwhile attraction for anyone who loves waterways. Or why not take a picnic to the riverbank and enjoy a glass of wine.

The fishing pond

We love the fishing pond (although we do not fish) we have spent many an hour with our chairs at the side of the pond feeding the ducks which are resident here. For fishing, day tickets can be purchased from the reception shop. Several motorhome pitches are situated around the pond along with Willow – the Glamping Cabin.

Kampers Kitchen

Although this is currently closed with the restrictions, the Kampers kitchen is a great place for you to sit and enjoy a meal or snacks, we have sat here on a regular basis and had dinner or tea when we didn’t feel like cooking. The menu is varied and also offers a daily special from lasagne to curry.

Pizza Oven

If you are lucky enough, you may drop on when the mobile pizza oven visits the site, and these pizzas are delicious! They are made on site while you sit outside your tent, and the great thing is that the staff will Whatsapp you when your food is ready for collection.

The camping fields

This campsite boasts 4 camping fields – the top field is where the Glamping cabins, the Gingerbread cabin and Geo-Dome are situated, the Family field is central and has full EHU, Riverside corner is a quiet location without EHU but makes up for that with the surroundings, then finally you have the new field, this is a large flat field (no EHU) but plenty of space for ball games and allowing the kids to play.

Our verdict

Well you’ll be reading this and thinking, this site must be 5 star based on the blog review so far, and you’d be absolutely right! There was one previous issue when we did a partial review on this site a few years ago and it was the bumpy road down to the park, well this is no longer so based on how great this park is we would strongly recommend it you and award it 5 out of 5 stars (A Must visit site) from the Glampers camping Club UK.

Our next review will be coming from Skipsea Sands Caravan and camping park so stay tuned…..

How to get there?

Holme Valley Camping and Caravan Park

Thongsbridge Holmfirth West Yorkshire HD9 7TD

From the south take exit 35a off the M1. Follow the A616 north, signposted first to Manchester, then Huddersfield for approximately 30 minutes. When in New Mill, continue on the road heading for Holmfirth where you will turn right at the traffic lights onto the A6024 towards Honley and Huddersfield.

Then after approximately 1 mile the road enters woodland and our turn off is about 300 yards further on the right.

From the north you will come through Huddersfield. Take the A616 Sheffield exit from the ring road, then turn left at the 3rd set of traffic lights signposted A616

Sheffield. Make sure you fork right on to the A6024 at Honley. The road enters woodland. Carry straight on past the sign for Oldfield on the right. The turn off for the park is a quarter of a mile further on the left.

SAT NAV users: Please be aware our lane (Lancaster Lane) links the A6024 with the A616 but there is no vehicular entrance off the A616. Do not follow your SAT NAV’s instructions if it is bringing you this way. The only way to access the park is from the A6024.
