Our camping trip and review of Waleswood caravan and camping park

Updated: May 8, 2023

Introduction

This particular site was recommended to us by friends that we met while camping on a previous trip. When Paul recommended this site we Googled the site almost immediately and it instantly looked impressive, even upon reading the previous reviews it looked great.

So following the recommendation we pre-booked for a 2 night stay.

Facilities

Upon arriving at the site entrance you are met by well maintained verges and shrubbery its immediately gave us an impression of the site being well looked after. We arrived at a security barrier and as our car drew close to the barrier it automatically lifted (ANPR).

The site is extremely well equipped in terms of facilities and we were very impressed by this (and believe me it takes a lot to impress us 😁). There is a well equipped shop and reception/cafe building which is modern and newly built, it’s an impressive building for a campsite of this size. This building sells key essentials such as groceries, household goods and snacks. You can also grab a choice of freshly made coffees, panini, toasties, bacon sandwiches etc. There’s a licensed bar with a good choice of beers and spirits. The seating area is spacious and modern with comfy sofas and other seating, it really is a great place to relax with a drink. There’s an outside seating terrace with views of the Rother Valley. We were very impressed with the investment of building for a campsite.

The toilets and shower blocks are equally as impressive too, very modern, warm and above all clean with instant hot water as soon as you press the button. Without a doubt these shower facilities get top marks in our book and are without a doubt one of the best we have used so far.

In terms of the other facilities there is a good sized washing up area, two modern shower and toilet blocks, playground and other activities for the kids, the occasional

Pizza and fish and chip van visits.

The pitches

The tent camping pitches need a little attention, the grass should be shorter, (far too long) however we did visit in September and maintenance we presume is drawing to a close. The pitch areas are ample and level but if you decide to stay here please invest in a long EHU cable (20 meter) as some pitches have a shared EHU post and it’s a bit of a stretch with a shorter cable. The site and pitches are well lit as all the EHU posts have a built in light for illumination. The pitches need attention in terms bare grass patches throughout and this could be addressed by investing in turf and patching up. This is something that definitely requires addressing. The area directly outside the new reception shop is well manicured and the grass is short so I would expect the camping pitches to be maintained to equal measure. Tent campers are just as important financially as caravaners and motor home owners.

Security

Security on this site is good, it feels safe and if there is any noise beyond the 11pm curfew - the site security are on it and deal with it quickly.

Things to do.

There’s plenty to do here, as already stated there’s lots for the kids to do, and if you enjoy a county walk there are some really great routes and if you enjoy bike riding the mapped out routes are brilliant too. A short distance away is Rother Valley park with its amazing lake where you can enjoy water sports, a coffee at the cafe or you can even hire a bike or kart to travel around the lake. The wildlife is also exceptional.

The staff

We found the staff on the site really good, always happy to engage you for a chat and very friendly and helpful.

Scenery and setting

The site is situated within the beautiful Rother Valley with amazing views across the countryside. The site can be a little breezy at times but this is due to its location on the hill, however this does detract from the superb location and scenery.

Summary and verdict

We definitely enjoyed our stay here, we thought that the facilities were truly exceptional and the site was maintained constantly. More maintenance attention should be given to the tent camping pitches as we feel these tend to get a little neglected in terms of grass cutting, especially when the caravan and motor home pitches seem to be maintained on a more regular basis.

All in all we would definitely recommend this site and we would return ourselves for sure.

Based on our experience we award this site with the following rating:

We hope you enjoyed this blog, until

Next time, happy camping.
