Our review of the Vango Rosewood Tipi tent

Updated: Mar 24, 2020

Vango Rosewood Tipi (Our Rosie)

Overview

We purchased this tent during the summer of 2019, we wanted to try this tent from the first time we laid eyes on it!, the appeal was there. So one Sunday afternoon in July 2019 we decided spontaneously to go and buy it on special offer at our local camping retailer.

The tent is described as a 6 birth polycotton Tipi style tent. We won’t bore you with specifications, this is straight honest review and our opinion of this tent.

Pack size and weight

Again we are not going to bore you with specs, however this tent is a very good pack size, the bag is polycotton fabric and not waterproof, however it is a robust and strong bag. The tent in the bag a manageable weight despite the metal poles, which often makes a tent heavy in the carry bag, however not with this tent. So all in all a manageable pack size and easy enough to carry and transport especially for our weekend short trips.

Pitching

We firstly looked at the YouTube pitching videos for this tent before buying, however it looked difficult when we watched to videos available.

But because we liked the look of the Rosewood we went ahead and purchased it anyway. Well let us tell you right now: it’s a very easy tent to pitch! Everyone has their own knack of pitching their own tents, this tent is a breeze to pitch with no difficulty at all. Our advice is to firstly watch the Attwoolls pitching video on YouTube, but take it from us it is very easy!

Fabric Quality

The fabric used on this tent is a (TC) technical cotton, you all know it as a polycotton material. The material is strong and feels lush to the touch, thick and plentiful.

When inside, the tent feels warm and comfortable. The colour of the material is very eye catching and appealing. The tent when inside feels fresh and breathable and not overpoweringly stuffy which you sometimes get with full polyester.

Sun canopy

One of the key features of this tent is the large sun canopy gaping out from the front of the tent. We have a thing about sun canopies on tents, we love them and we believe it makes the tent look far better. Practically though the sun canopy on this tent serves a good purpose, even though the alloy canopy poles seem a little flimsy the canopy does serve a good practical purpose for sun shade or protection from the rain. We have sat under the canopy in both weather extremes and it lived up!

Tied arch system

This is a brilliant design, by having the tied arch system with the poles this does away totally with the internal centre pole allowing full space within the inside of the tent. There is two upright steel poles and two alloy poles which tie into each other using a pin lock type system which when fully pitched and pegged create a very strong structure.

Ventilation

This tent has two airzones to the front with Velcro fastening tabs which are a standard design for Vango on many tents. It also has full ventilation mesh around the top crown. The ample ventilation makes it far more comfortable in warmer weather and also prevents excess condensation.

The tent does boast plenty of ventilation throughout.

Hook up outlet point

A little disappointed that this tent only has one hook up point, which is situated to the left just behind the divider bedroom curtain. Maybe a hook up point access on either side of the tent would have been a better option.

How good is it in bad weather?

Well this one is easy! The tent performed amazingly in high winds and rain, we camped at Inbirchworth in September and the weather wasn’t good, we experienced high winds and some rain but Rosie stood firm throughout it all. We got up to find several other tents and caravan awnings damaged by the adverse weather. An excellent performance demonstrated by this tent with no damage at all.

Overall verdict

Overall we are very happy with our purchase. The tent is very appealing to look at, so much so that no matter where we go we are constantly approached by other campers commenting positively about how good it looks! It’s a real head turner and we love it. This tent basically ticks all the boxes for us for long weekends or longer stays. It fits our purpose exactly and Ideal for couples wanting luxury, space and for anyone wanting to show off on the campsite! Out of all the Vango tents we have purchased this has to be one of the very best.

Happy Glamping!
