Our review of Hardhurst Farm campsite, near Castleton
Hardhurst Farm
Overview
This is a little campsite on a working farm tucked away in Hope Valley near the heritage village of Castleton in Derbyshire.
The site is basic but is set in some beautiful countryside with views of the peaks. There is an on-site bar however this is only open during the school holidays so was closed during our stay. There is a really good pub about 5 mins walk from the site serving food and a good selection of ales.

Facilities at the campsite
Toilets and separate shower block
Elsan point
Free freezer use
£23 per night (EHU)
Outside wash up area
Separate caravan and tent field
Good points
The scenery from the camping field is very good, looking over the Peak District hills - quite stunning!
The price of £23 per night with full EHU is good value.
The owners are nice and welcoming and allow you to just get on with things without interference.
Pub off site - a 5 minute walk away called the Travellers Rest, this pub serves really good food 12pm to 9pm

Not so good points
Toilets and showers are not clean and are in need of decorating and repair.
The caravan area seems to be better maintained than the tent field in terms of grass and borders.
The tent field is next to a train track however this isn’t overbearing.
The tent field is next to a sheep/lambing field and these animals are noisy - yes it’s a farm however these animals are even calling throughout the night.
The wash up area is exposed to the elements and not covered. This area would benefit from a canopy cover.

Conclusion
We enjoyed our stay at this site, however the amenities on site are in urgent need of refurbishment. Maintenance of the grassed areas is also required. Generally the site is quiet with the exception of the train line running behind the camping field. Overall it’s a site located in some stunning countryside with amazing views, and if you want a quick short get away we would recommend this site. The site seems to be popular with hikers due to it being located near to the Peak District.
Would we return: YES
